Our Elementary program builds on the strong foundation provided by our Casa program, and utilizes specifically developed Montessori materials to deliver advanced instruction in Mathematics, Language Arts, and Science. Our curriculum meets and exceeds the Ministry of Education requirements while emphasizing critical thinking and abstract learning. We understand that every child has unique cognitive and social/emotional needs. We believe in capitalizing on children’s natural curiosity, creativity, and imagination to provide them with opportunities to expand their horizons. Our focus on extended learning experiences and the development of higher order thinking skills allows us to provide new opportunities for critical investigations that help children develop intellectually and personally. Our curriculum is based on the Ontario Curriculum, which provides a solid foundation for all program enrichment elements.
At Uxbridge Montessori School, we have made a long-standing commitment to embed Character Education within our curriculum. We are proud to provide an exceptional Elementary educational experience anchored in our Montessori homerooms. Our highly trained and certified Montessori teachers inspire and guide learning, complemented by the work of expert specialist teachers in art, French, music, technology, physical education, and health. Our interdisciplinary approach with homeroom and specialist teachers creates opportunities for students to develop significant depth and breadth in their knowledge and basic skills, including the development of higher-level thinking skills such as research, synthesis, problem solving, and application.
Our welcoming and child-centered Elementary classrooms are filled with hands-on activities that inspire responsibility, concentration, and determination. Our visual art program promotes the development of technique, creativity, risk-taking, and critical thinking, allowing students to express themselves and learn about art history and other cultures. Our physical education program provides an enjoyable experience that helps students develop physical skills, goal setting, discipline, and social skills such as working with others, fairness, team play, sportsmanship, and leadership. We also offer off-site gym programs for swimming,skating and skiing that enhance our weekly activity sessions and allow students to learn new skills and enjoy physical activity.Your student will have the opportunity to experience a well-rounded education that fosters intellectual curiosity, creativity, and personal development in a nurturing and supportive community.
We offer a comprehensive music education program that encourages the development of knowledge and skills through joyful participation in making music. Our active approach to learning combines listening, movement, singing, and playing with the introduction of musical notation and terminology. Our music instruction is often integrated with classroom learning about various cultures and historical periods, dramatic activities, and visual arts.
Starting in grade four, our students are introduced to Band instruments, honing their work ethic and deepening their musical knowledge, skill, and creativity in an engaging and rewarding program. We use the Orff method to provide a diverse knowledge of instruments, rhythm, and musicality, giving students opportunities to further develop important skills in areas including team-building and leadership. Additionally, our students begin to develop an understanding of music theory and composition.
UMS is pleased to offer a comprehensive STEAM and technology program to our students. We believe that in today’s rapidly changing world, it is important for students to have a strong foundation in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. Our program is designed to promote creativity, innovation, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills through hands-on experiences and experimentation.
Students at Uxbridge Montessori School develop computer skills through a variety of applications such as Microsoft Word and activities that allow them to become more adept at computer literacy. We also integrate coding and programming into our curriculum, teaching students valuable skills in logic, sequencing, and problem-solving. Additionally, we have a dedicated MakerSpace lab that provides students with the opportunity to explore robotics, engineering, and design through interactive activities and projects.
Our STEAM and technology program is designed to prepare students for the digital age and equip them with the skills they need to thrive in the 21st century.
Uxbridge Montessori School values the importance of well-rounded education and offers a range of co-curricular activities for students to explore and develop their unique talents and interests. Through our after school clubs, students practice respect, make positive choices, and strive to do their best, gaining self-confidence, discovering new talents, and forging lasting friendships. Our co-curricular activities cater to various grade levels and include Athletic Teams, House Leagues, Band, Choir, Orff Ensembles, Drama Club, Friends of the Community, and Toy Mountain Committee. Additionally, we offer a diverse selection of user-pay Extracurricular Programs. At UMS, we believe in providing an environment where students can grow and learn beyond the classroom, embracing their passions and nurturing their social, emotional, and physical development.
