Middle School Grade 7 to 8

At Uxbridge Montessori School, Grades 7 and 8 students experience a smooth transition from the Montessori Environment to the Ontario Curriculum. These crucial years mark a time of growth and independence as students take on increased responsibilities in preparation for high school. Our carefully structured environment encourages students to take ownership of their learning and make informed choices. With guidance from our dedicated teachers, students gain independence and responsibility in a supportive and nurturing environment. Our Middle School program combines the Montessori philosophy with the Ontario Curriculum to ensure a well-rounded education that fosters a love of learning and prepares students for future success.

We understand that academic subjects are important in shaping a child’s educational foundation. In grades 7 and 8, students are prepared for the rigor of senior level education by building on the Montessori learning environment and integrating the Ontario Curriculum. In addition to providing a structured approach to academic subjects such as mathematics, literacy, and science, our experienced and qualified specialist teachers provide instruction in subjects like French, Music, Computers, and Physical Education. Our state-of-the-art technology, including SmartBoards and 1:1 loaned Chromebook program, helps to create a well-rounded and dynamic learning environment. With access to the latest resources and tools, students can engage in meaningful and relevant learning experiences that prepare them for success in the modern world. Our focus on real-world applications of concepts helps to develop critical thinking skills and practical problem-solving abilities that will serve students well beyond the classroom.

Our Character Education program is an integral part of our curriculum, promoting the development of essential social and emotional skills. Our Middle School students are encouraged to be mindful of their own thoughts and feelings as well as those of others, and to build positive relationships with peers, teachers, and the wider community. In each class, teachers provide a safe and supportive environment where students can explore and develop their values, self-awareness, and social skills. Our students learn to communicate effectively, work collaboratively, and become responsible and compassionate citizens. The UMS community values and respects each individual, fostering a positive and inclusive culture that allows all students to thrive. By providing a balanced approach to learning, we help our students to achieve success not just academically, but also as individuals who are equipped to make positive contributions to the world around them.  At Uxbridge Montessori School, we believe in the importance of educating the whole child.

At UMS, we understand that the transition from childhood to adolescence can be a challenging time for students. That’s why our Middle School model is designed to provide a gradual and supportive turning point for young adolescents who still need the continuity of a smaller peer group. Our specialist teachers and challenging learning environment enable students to maximize their learning capacity and enhance their abstract thinking abilities. We offer personalized assignments and accelerated courses in mathematics, French, and other subjects, which provide opportunities for students to take academic risks and attain their goals. Additionally, our low student-teacher ratios ensure that each child receives individual attention and support.

In our Grade 7 and 8 programs, we focus on developing independent study habits and organizational skills, teaching students how to bring projects to an effective conclusion, and how to communicate their ideas to others. Our academic program enables students to explore their interests and passions while providing them with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in high school and beyond. We recognize the importance of social and emotional development, and Character Education is woven throughout all of our programs to help students develop into responsible, compassionate, and engaged members of their communities.
