CASA PROGRAMME

Laying the Foundation for Lifelong Learning For Children Ages 3 – 5

At Uxbridge Montessori School, our Casa Program provides a rich, nurturing environment where children build essential academic, social, and emotional skills during their most formative years. Grounded in the Montessori philosophy, the Casa classroom empowers each child to grow with confidence, curiosity, and purpose.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

A Prepared Environment for Independence and Growth

The Casa classroom is a beautifully organized, calm space designed to support self-directed learning and purposeful exploration. Children engage with tactile Montessori materials that transform abstract concepts into concrete, meaningful experiences.

Guided by Montessori-trained educators, students learn to:

  • Develop focus and concentration
  • Build responsibility and independence
  • Foster a genuine love of learning

Key Areas of Learning

  • Practical Life – Everyday activities such as pouring, buttoning, sweeping, and food preparation build fine motor control, independence, and order.
  • Sensorial Activities – Materials that refine the senses and support classification, patterning, and early critical thinking.
  • Language – Phonemic awareness, letter sounds, vocabulary development, and pre-reading skills that lay the groundwork for literacy.
  • Mathematics – Hands-on exploration of numbers, quantity, counting, operations, and place value.
  • Cultural Studies – An introduction to geography, science, nature, and community through stories, maps, and real-world connections.

Building Confidence for the Elementary Years

Children in our Casa Program often remain with the same educators for multiple years, building deep, trusting relationships and a strong sense of classroom community. As they grow in independence and master foundational skills, they develop the self-confidence and competence to transition smoothly into the Elementary Program.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Casa Program is rooted in the Montessori philosophy, which emphasizes self-directed learning, hands-on exploration, and individualized instruction. Unlike traditional programs, children in Casa work at their own pace with developmentally appropriate materials that build independence, confidence, and academic readiness.

No prior Montessori experience is required. Children quickly adapt to the environment with the support of our experienced educators and the natural structure of the classroom. New students are gently introduced to the routines and materials at their own comfort level.

Our Montessori-trained educators observe and assess each child regularly to understand their developmental readiness and interests. Lessons are given one-on-one or in small groups, allowing students to progress through materials as they demonstrate readiness—not according to age or grade.

Yes. UMS Casa students graduate with strong foundational skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. In addition to academic readiness, they develop independence, emotional regulation, and social confidence—essential qualities for success in Grade 1 and beyond.

Social-emotional learning is woven into daily life through grace and courtesy lessons, peer collaboration, and respectful conflict resolution. Multi-age groupings also allow younger children to learn from older role models, while older students develop leadership and empathy.

A typical day includes:

  • An extended work cycle where students choose and complete activities
  • Individual and small group lessons in math, language, and culture
  • Outdoor play, group snack, music, and movement
  • Lunch and quiet rest time (optional for younger students)
  • Classroom community activities and story time

We maintain low ratios to ensure every child receives personalized attention and guidance. Each Casa classroom is led by a certified Montessori teacher and supported by trained assistants.

UMS values strong home-school partnerships. Parents receive regular updates, access to learning portfolios, and are invited to participate in conferences, workshops, and classroom observations throughout the year.
