Pre-casa (18 Months – 3 Years)

Welcome to Uxbridge Montessori School, where we provide a strong foundation in academic and life skills through our Pre-Casa program. Our approach is based on the philosophy formulated by Dr. Maria Montessori, who recognized the crucial importance of education during the formative years. Our specially “prepared environment” offers child-size furniture and manipulative objects that encourage children to learn through their senses. Our program is not daycare, but a decisive entry point to a highly nurturing and successful educational environment for the whole person. Our gifted Pre-Casa teachers engage all of the child’s senses to allow them to absorb their surroundings and guide their interactions for constant learning and development. Through interacting with their environment and each other, children learn about their world and develop self-confidence, self-discipline, appreciation, and respect. At UMS, we give your child the foundation they need for future success.

Visual Art

We understand the importance of providing children with a rich and engaging environment that encourages their creativity and imagination. Our Pre-Casa program offers daily opportunities for children to explore and create masterpieces using a variety of mediums such as finger-paints, play dough, cutting, and pasting. Each week, they are introduced to new art activities using different materials and techniques, allowing them to engage in purposeful activities that support their natural creative tendencies. Pre-Casa students have the opportunity to express themselves and develop their creativity, giving your child the chance to explore and develop their artistic abilities in a nurturing and supportive environment.

Music

Our daily music circles provide each child with the opportunity to sing and move to the beat, helping them to develop their sense of rhythm and coordination. Exposure to music at an early age has been shown to have significant benefits for a child’s cognitive, emotional, and social development. At Uxbridge Montessori School, we provide a rich musical environment that encourages children to explore and appreciate a variety of musical styles and instruments.

Physical Development

The development of coordination, balance, and strength is an essential component of our Pre-Casa program. Our playroom provides children with a safe and stimulating environment where they can explore and develop control of their bodies while having fun. We also understand the importance of connecting young children with nature, which is why we organize weekly walking journeys that allow them to appreciate and care for the natural world. Through outdoor play activities and games, children have the opportunity to interact with each other, developing their social skills and building a sense of community. Our outdoor playground equipment provides a safe and exciting space for children to engage in physical activities that promote their overall health and well-being.

French

At UMS, we understand the importance of introducing children to a second language at a young age. Our French program is introduced in the Pre-Casa program, where children learn the fundamentals of the French vocabulary. We believe that learning another language is an essential part of a well-rounded education, and French is one of Canada’s official languages, spoken widely around the world. By introducing children to French at a young age, we help them develop an appreciation for French culture and a solid foundation for future language learning. Our French program is designed to be engaging and fun, using games, songs, and other activities to help children learn in a supportive and nurturing environment.

STEAM and Technology

Our program introduces children to basic computer operating skills, allowing them to develop their digital literacy in a safe and supportive environment. As children progress, they have the opportunity to work on various educational software, developing their problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Our Pre-Casa program introduces keyboarding skills through painting and illustrating short stories, allowing children to express their creativity while developing their fine motor abilities. We believe that STEAM and technology is an important tool for learning and development, and we are committed to helping children become confident and skilled users of technology.

Our UMS Pre-Casa program is designed to be a natural extension of the home. Our harmonious community provides a supportive environment where each child is encouraged to reach their full potential. Developing relationships with adults and children outside of their own family helps children develop essential social skills, independence, and self-expression. At Uxbridge Montessori School, we build our community on a foundation of trust and respect, creating an atmosphere of positive self-guided discipline. We believe that a child’s social and emotional development is just as important as their academic development, and our Pre-Casa program is designed to support both.
